The Garden House
One of the finest gardens of its kind, the garden was originally created by Lionel Fortescue in the 1940's. This consisted of a walled garden of about 2 acres, with terraces of traditional herbaceous borders and shrubs set around the ruins of a 17th century vicarage.
Since the death of Mr Fortescue in 1981, the garden has been maintained by the Fortescue Garden Trust, and in recent years has been expanded to include a further 6 acres outside the walled garden. What was once a field has now become a stunning kaleidoscope of flowers, planted by Keith Wiley in the "New Naturalism" style.
The Garden House is open to the public every day from March to October. See the official website (link below) for details of location and opening hours.
